Using Google Earth Snap Shots

Google Earth snap shots (copy image) can be used as MNS maps.

Here is how to use Google Earth snap shots in the MNS.

• 1. Get above the right spot in the Google Earth (GE). Zoom as applicable.
• 2. press the "n" button (north up) to make sure that the GE view is north up.
• 3. Then choose "Edit/Copy Image" in the GE menu. (The image is now on the clip board)
• 4. Write down the current eye position and elevation if needed (usually it is visible in the image already).

• 5. Then start MSPaint or similar paint program and just paste the copied image from the GE (clip board).
• 6. Save the image to a file (png for example).
• 7. Create new map in the MNS using that image.
• 8. Set the projection to "proj=nsper; lat0=eye_lat; lon0=eye_lon; h=eye_elevation(meters)". Use the eye position and elevation previously used in the snap shot. Study examples for the full definition.
• 9. Calibrate the image in the MNS. (Use point data from GE or some other method).
